The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Preview Is Here, Introducing New Characters Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Voices

The collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination shared the initial complete preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie this Wednesday. It was showcased in a dedicated Nintendo presentation that focused exclusively on the forthcoming animated feature.

The follow-up to the 2023 blockbuster The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this latest chapter will transport Mario to the outer limits of the cosmos. Along the way, he discovers a different royal figure and a powerful new opponent in Bowser Jr., the offspring of the Koopa King.

An Interstellar Journey Inspired by Beloved Titles

Similar to the Wii console classics that provide its foundation, Mario will leave behind the familiar comforts of the Mushroom Kingdom to journey through the cosmos. Throughout his extensive trek, he will encounter once more some familiar faces, including the Luma, a popular character from the original cinematic release.

But it appears Mario and his brother Luigi will confront a new threat in the form of Bowser's irate young son, who apparently commands metallic abilities. Interestingly, the teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not exclusively centered on Galaxy-inspired imagery; it also contains hints to additional popular titles like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.

Celebrity Voice Actors Reprise Roles and Welcome Newcomers

The feature will see the return of the primary vocal talent, featuring Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

New additions to the ensemble for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will portray Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to play Bowser Jr. The casting was verified by the CEO of Illumination, Chris Meledandri.

A Big Year for Mario

The upcoming Mario film is set to release around the time of the 40-year celebration of the initial Super Mario Bros. release. Apart from the cinematic release, 2026 is shaping up to be a major period for Mario and his allies.

Nintendo confirmed a trio of new releases officially announced for 2026, including Mario Tennis Fever, a version for Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a fresh Yoshi side-scroller titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.

Launch Date Set

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is officially set to be released on April 3, 2026.
